Aids in the diagnosis and monitoring of monoclonal gammopathies, when used in conjunction with serum free light chain analysis. This test alone is not considered an adequate screen for monoclonal gammopathies.
Immunofixation is performed if patterns observed in protein electrophoresis are monoclonal or suspicious.
