This assay is intended for the detection and differentiation of Bordetella pertussis (whooping cough) and Bordetella parapertussis (whooping cough-like syndrome).

Container/Tube: UTM or VTM or ESwab (Liquid Aimes)
Collection Instructions:
1.Collect specimen using a flexible shaft nasopharyngeal swab (i.e., Flocked, Rayon and Polyester).
2. Gently slide swab along floor of nose with very light pressure to nasopharyngeal wall to allow the swab to absorb secretions.
3. Rotate swab slowly two to three times and withdraw it.
4. Place the swab into an approved transport medium, close tightly.
5. Label tube with patient’s identifiers
6. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.

Specimen can be stored at 2°C to 8°C for up to 7 days.
