Clinical Info

This molecular test aids in the diagnosis of C. difficile colitis. Stool specimens must be unformed/liquid. Patients, 2 years old or younger, are frequently colonized with C difficile.

Container: Screw-capped, clean container
Specimen:Unformed stool (specimen conforms to shape of container). Specimens with addictive or in leaky containers will be rejected
Collection Instructions:
Note: Formed stools should not be tested, as positive results in asymptomatic patients generally represent colonization rather than Clostridioides (Clostridium) difficile infection (CDI). Submit only 1 specimen per episode.
Repeat testing will offer no further useful clinical information.
Unacceptable Collections: ESwab or any similar specimen with a liquid or gel. Added media may interfere with PCR assay.
