Clinical Info

This assay provides absolute cell counts and percentages for CD3+ T-cells, CD4 and CD8 T cell subsets, CD19+ B-cells, CD16/CD56 natural killer cells,as well as CD4/CD8 ratio.

Collection Instructions

Contact the Flow Cytometry Laboratory at CFAM at CFAMFlow@northwell.edu for collection instructions and consultation on selection of test(s).
Forward promptly. Specimen cannot be refrigerated.
Rejection Criteria - All Peripheral Blood samples that were not kept and/or transported at room temperature 18-25°C will be rejected. These samples are also rejected if the laboratory cannot feasibly complete testing within 24 hours post collection and the viability is less than 50%.

Methodology

Flow Cytometry
Includes CD3, CD4, CD8, CD16/56, CD19, ABS CD3, ABS CD4, ABS CD8, ABS CD16/56, ABS CD19 AND 4/8 RATIO.

Days Performed

Laboratory is open Mondays through Fridays 7:00AM to 12:00AM. All testing is available during these hours. Limited testing is available on Saturdays  from 8AM -4PM. Laboratory is closed on Sundays and Legal Holidays – New Year’s, Martin Luther King Jr, President’s, Memorial, Independence, Labor, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.

Reference ranges for pediatric population (0-18 years old) are from Shearer, William T., et al. "Lymphocyte subsets in healthy children from birth through 18 years of age: the Pediatric AIDS Clinical Trials Group P1009 study." Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology 112.5 (2003): 973-980.

Reference ranges for adult (18-66 years old) and geriatric (66 years old and above) populations were developed at North Shore University Hospital at Manhasset, New York.
