| Ordering info (EPIC SmartText) | Xpert MTB/RIF Assay is intended for use with specimens from patients with clinical suspicion of tuberculosis and who have received no anti-tuberculosis therapy, or less than 3 days of therapy. This test must be used in conjunction with mycobacterial culture.
Physicians can order a maximum of 2 MTB/RIF tests on acid fast smear negative sputum; the second test will not be performed if the first test is MTB detected.
All first time acid-fast smear positive sputum specimens will have one MTB/RIF test performed as part of the laboratory testing algorithm.
