Clinical Info

The H. pylori stool antigen test is one of two recommended noninvasive tests, alongside the urea breath test, for diagnosis of suspected active H. pylori infection. It is also useful for confirming eradication of the infection after treatment.

Collection Instructions

Collect stool specimens into a clean airtight container with no preservative.
NOTE: Antimicrobials, proton pump inhibitors and bismuth preparations are known to inhibit H. pylori
and may give a false negative result. In these cases, a new fecal sample should be collected and tested 14 days after treatment has stopped. Positive results from patients that have used antibiotics, PPIs, or bismuth compounds in the 14 days prior to fecal sample collection are still considered accurate.
