This is intended to aid in the diagnosis of Mpox cutaneous infections. Non-variola Orthopoxvirus (such as vaccinia, monkeypox, or cowpox) are expected to produce a positive result with this assay.

Collection Instructions

Container/Tube: Universal Transport Media (UTM) or Viral Transport Media (VTM) (No RUHOF )
Specimen: Swab (polyester, rayon, or Dacron) of cutaneous or mucosal lesion in Universal Transport Media (UTM) or Viral Transport Media (VTM). No Dry Swabs.

Collection Instructions:
1. Wear personal protective equipment
2. Gently but vigorously swab the skin lesion(s) for 10-20 seconds while rotating the swab
3.Exposed lesion bases, exudate, or crusted areas potentially have higher viral concentration and should be sampled if possible.
4. Insert inoculated swab carefully in UTM/VTM collection tube
5. Screw closed UTM/VTM tube screw-top cap carefully to avoid specimen leaks
