Collection Instructions

One (1) part 3.2% sodium citrate to nine (9)
parts whole blood (Blue top Vacutainer®). The ratio of blood to
anticoagulant is critical.  Erroneous
clotting times may result if this ratio is not achieved.  The collection tube must have a
"nonwettable or siliconized" surface to eliminate contact
activation.  NCCLS guidelines require a
minimum of 90% expected fill of the collection tube to guarantee accuracy of
results. If the light blue top tube is the only tube to be drawn and will be
collected using a butterfly set, a “discard” tube (either
a plain[non-additive] or light blue) must be partially drawn just to
completely fill the collection tubing with blood before collecting the
light blue top for testing.
