Collection Instructions

For NSUH Inpatients Only: For blood draws, only 3.2% sodium citrate tubes can be used, completely filled by vacuum. Draw a non-additive discard tube or syringe first. After collection, gently invert the tube 5 times to mix. Samples can only be analyzed after a 15-minute incubation in room temperature and within 2 hours of collection.

Transport Instructions

Specimens collected for Thromboelastography Hemostatis testing are extremely sensitive to motion and disturbance. Samples must be walked over to the lab and handed directly to laboratory staff.

Monitoring of kinetic changes in a sample of anticoagulated whole blood as the sample clots, retracts and/or lyses in real time, resulting in graphical representation of hemostasis curve which depicts clot firmness over time
