Result InterpretationTroponin results should be interpreted in conjunction with the patient’s current clinical presentation, symptoms, medical history, and ECG findings. A single troponin result is not definitive in diagnosing acute myocardial infarction due to the release kinetics of cardiac troponin. Serial measurements are necessary for ruling in or ruling out suspected NSTEMI. Chronic renal impairment can lead to persistently elevated troponin levels. Elevated troponin concentration can also be seen in patients with, acute heart failure, myocarditis, rhabdomyolysis, or polymyositis. |
