This assay is primarily used to evaluate for myeloperoxidase deficiency in neutrophils, both hereditary and acquired. Peripheral blood smears are stained by MPO immunocytochemistry. The presence or absence of MPO in neutrophils are determined by direct visualization.

Container/ Tube: Green-top (sodium heparin) tube or Lavender (EDTA)
Specimen:  5 mL of  whole blood Alternatively 2 BM aspirate or peripheral blood smears can be used. Do not freeze

Collection Instructions:  Deliver specimen to laboratory within 12 hours

Laboratory is open Mondays through Fridays 7:00AM to 12:00AM. All testing is available during these hours. Limited testing is available on Saturdays from 8AM-4PM. Laboratory is closed on Sundays and Legal Holidays – New Year’s, Martin Luther King Jr, President’s, Memorial, Independence, Labor, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
