For the multiplexed molecular detection of multiple bacteria, viruses and parasites directly from stool samples in Cary-Blair transport media obtained from individuals with signs and/or symptoms of gastrointestinal infection. If Shigella, Salmonella, Vibrio, Yersinia, STEC or E. coli O157 are detected, culture will be performed. Antibiotic susceptibility testing will be performed for Shigella, S. typhi, S. paratyphi, and Yersinia. Serial stool collections will not be accepted. This test is not recommended as a test of cure. |

Container/Tube: Cary-Blair transport media Specimen: Random Stool Transport Temperature: Refrigerated or room temperature up to 4 days Collection Instructions: Stool specimens collected in Cary Blair transport media. Add stool until level in Cary Blair vial is at fill-line on vial. Do not over fill. Cary Blair is transported and stored at room temperature or refrigerated at 2-8°C.Reject any Cary Blair greater than 4 days old. Stool received in a cup must be transferred to a Cary Blair transport media within 24h. Transfer stool up to the fill line on the transport media (approximately 1 gram). 200 μL of sample is required for testing. Collect only one specimen. Repeat testing may be performed after 14 days, if necessary. |

he FilmArray gastrointestinal panel (GI PCR Panel, Stool) is a multiplex PCR test that detects 22 pathogens (bacteria, parasites, and viruses) from stool in Cary Blair transport medium.(BioFire) The pathogens detected on this panel are: Campylobacter species, Plesiomonas shigelloides, Salmonella species, Vibrio sp., V. cholerae, Yersinia enterocolitica, Enteroaggregative Escherichia coli, Enteropathogenic E. coli, Enterotoxigenic E. coli, Shiga toxin-producing E coli, E coli O157, Shigella/Enteroinvasive E. coli, Cryptosporidium sp., Cyclospora sp., Entamoeba histolytica, Giardia lamblia, Adenovirus 40/41, Astrovirus, Norovirus GI/GII, Rotavirus A and Sapovirus. |
