Measuring TBG can aid in differentiating true thyroid dysfunction from alterations in thyroid hormone binding, especially when the total thyroid hormone results appear discordant with the patient’s clinical presentation, thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) results or free thyroid hormone results.
