Use to diagnose and monitor diabetes mellitus and/or prediabetes.
This assay may produce lower HbA1c results in patients with abnormal amounts of HbF. 
Consider ordering Fructosamine as an alternative test for monitoring long-term glycemic control in these patients

The American Diabetes Association (ADA) and the American Association for

Clinical Chemistry (AACC) have determined that the correlation between the

measured HbA1c and calculated eAG is strong enough to recommend reporting

both results when a HbA1c is ordered(1). The eAG or mean plasma glucose (MPG)

reflects the average glucose over the same time span as the HgbA1c, approximately

3 months. The eAG is a calculated result.
