Specimen should be analyzed within 30 minutes of draw.
Container/Tube: Lavender top EDTA tube
Specimen: 1mL EDTA plasma ( 1 lavender microtainer for pediatric draws)
Transport Temperature: Frozen
Stability: Room Temperature (plasma or whole blood) Unacceptable
Refrigerated 2 Hours
Frozen Plasma 3 Weeks

Draw blood in a lavender-top (EDTA) tube(s). Spin down, separate plasma from cells, immediately freeze 1 mL of EDTA plasma in plastic vial.

Ammonia increases rapidly due to degradation of serum proteins. Elevated results should be interpreted with caution and repeat testing considered.
