Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
 
Plasma
Container/Tube:  Mint green-top (lithium heparin gel) tube(s)
Specimen:  1 mL of lithium heparin plasma
Transport Temperature:  Refrigerate
Collection Instructions:  Spin down and process promptly to avoid falsely high results. Avoid exposure of specimen to atmosphere. Do not open tube.
Note:  1. Indicate plasma on request form.
2. Label specimen appropriately (plasma).
 
Serum
Container/Tube:  Gold-top tube(s)
Specimen:  1 mL of serum
Transport Temperature:  Refrigerate
Collection Instructions:  Allow serum to clot for 45 minutes and spin down. If red blood cells remain above the gel layer, place serum in a plastic vial. Avoid exposure of specimen to atmosphere. Do not open tube.
Note:  1. Indicate serum on request form.
2. Label specimen appropriately (serum).
