Clinical Info

Detection and quantitation of BK Virus (BKV) in urine stabilized in cobas® PCR Media can be used as an aid in the diagnosis and management of BK virus infections.

Specimen Type

Urine

Container

Random urine or cobas® PCR Media tube

Collection Instructions

Container/Tube: Random Urine or Urine stabilized in Cobas® PCR Media
Specimen : 10 mL of urine (6 mL min)
If using the Cobas® PCR Media Fill urine to fall within the 2 black lines on the cobas® PCR
Media tube.
Transport Temperature: Refrigerated
Stability: 2 days Refrigerated
90 Days if using the Cobas® PCR Media tube
Note: Specimen must be received within 48 hours of collection.
Collection instructions if using the Cobas® PCR Media tube
Collect a urine sample in a sterile cup. Transfer the urine using the transfer pipette included in the cobas® PCR Urine Sample Kit to the cobas® PCR Media tube. Transfer enough urine so the level falls between the two black lines on the cobas® PCR Media tube. Cap the tube tightly and invert 5 times to mix the sample.

Transport Instructions

Specimen must be received within 48 hours of collection,  if not, transferred into the Cobas(R) PCR Media tube

Specimen Stability

2 days Refrigerated
90 Days if using the Cobas(R) PCR media tube
