Results

Result Interpretation

   Negative

Interpretive Data

Positive:

Presumptive detection of L. pneumophila serogroup 1 antigen in urine, suggesting recent or current infection. Order “Culture –Legionella” as recommended to confirm infection.

Negative :

L. pneumophila serogroup 1 antigen in urine NOT detected, suggesting NO recent or current infection. Infection due to Legionella cannot be ruled out: other serogroups or species may cause disease, antigen may not be present in urine in early infection, or the level of antigens in urine may be below the detection limit of the test. Order “Culture –Legionella” recommended for uncommon cases of suspected Legionella pneumonia due to organisms other than L. pneumophila serogroup 1.
