Collection Instructions

Specimen Source is required
Specimen: 
 Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL)
and sputum specimens (including endotracheal aspirates).
Note: Specimens should not be centrifuged, preprocessed,
treated with any mucolytic or decontaminating agents (e.g., MycoPrep, Sputasol,
Snap n' Digest, DTT, sodium hydroxide, oxalic acid, trypsin, etc.), or
placed into transport media before testing.
Collection
   Transfer 1.5~2.0 mL (min. volume 0.5 mL) specimen to a sterile container or sterile screw top tube.

Interpretation of the assay

Lower respiratory panel PCR assay is a multiplexed nucleic acid test intended for the detection and identification of multiple respiratory viral and bacterial nucleic acids in bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) and sputum-like specimens (induced or expectorated sputum, or endotracheal aspirates) from individuals suspected of lower respiratory tract infection. The panel components include Adenovirus, Coronavirus (not SARS-COV-2), Human metapneumovirus, Human rhinovirus/enterovirus, Influenza A, Influenza B, Parainfluenza virus, Respiratory syncytial virus, Chlamydia pneumoniae, Mycoplasma pneumoniae, Legionella pneumophila.

Note: when the Lower Respiratory Panel PCR (LRPPCR) is ordered, it will automatically trigger a reflex order for the standard COVID-19 PCR (COVID19PCRLR).
