Result Interpretation

Insulin, Free, S Pubertal Children and Adults (fasting): 0 - 17 Insulin, Total, S Non-Diabetic: In the absence of insulin-binding antibodies, the free and total insulin assays are equivalent. However, this assay is intended for use in diabetics with insulin autoantibody present. Measurement is performed on acid-treated samples and, therefore, the sensitivity and absolute values by this method may differ from our direct insulin ICMA. Insulin Dependent Diabetic Patients: Free Insulin levels vary depending on the capacity and affinity of circulating insulin-binding antibodies and the dose of insulin given to the patient. Total insulin levels represent free insulin and antibody bound insulin fractions
