MUST submit 2 separate urine specimens (one BD yellow-top or speckle-top urinalysis collection tube and one BD gray-top urine culture tube)

At Northwell Core Lab, specimen will reflex to urine culture if any one of the following criteria is met:
1. Positive nitrite
2. Positive leukocyte esterase
3. Bacteria >= Moderate
4. > 5 WBC/hpf
At Northwell Hospital Labs, specimen will reflex to urine culture if any one of the following criteria is met:
1. >10 WBC/hpf
2. Leukocyte esterase: if abnormal (except Trace)

Collection Instructions

A clean-catch midstream specimen is desirable
Specimen:  10 mL from a random urine (5 mL min) for UA and 4 mL in culture tube for culture
