This test is for perinatal screening of Group B Streptococcus (GBS) in women with severe penicillin allergy.

Collection Instructions


Sterile Swab in a sterile transport media. ESwab is preferred. Vaginal-rectal swabs generally have higher yield than vaginal swabs alone 
1. Using 1 swab in sample lower vagina followed by rectum.
2. Return swab to sterile culture transport tube (Eswab, Amies, Stuart media) to ensure specimen preservation.
3. Label tube with patient’s name (first and last), date and actual time of collection, and type of specimen.
4. Maintain sterility and forward promptly at ambient temperature.
Note: Specimen source is required on request form for processing.

Methodology

Group B DNA Detection by Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR)
If “Group B DNA Detection” is positive, reflex to sensitivity.
