Collection Instructions

Submit only 1 of the following specimens:
 
Nasopharyngeal Fluid
1. Submit fluid in a screw-capped, sterile container.
2. Maintain sterility and forward promptly.
Note:  Specimen source is required on request form for processing.
 
Nasopharyngeal Smear
1. Swab nasal discharge with an applicator stick.
2. Spread a thin layer on clean, glass slide in a clockwise fashion.
3. Allow slide to air dry
Note:  Specimen source is required on request form for processing.

Transport Instructions

Nasopharyngeal Fluid:
Send specimen refrigerated.
Nasopharyngeal Smear:
Transport dry nasal slide in a plastic slide container at room temperature.
