Babesia species, Molecular Detection is the recommended test for all suspected cases of babesiosis. This assay provides significantly faster turnaround time and more accurate results than traditional blood smears.

If parasite quantification is required, “Parasitemia, Blood” should be ordered with “Babesia species, Molecular Detection", or on known Babesia positive patients.
