Clinical Info

Measuring Low Molecular heparin concentration:
-In patients treated with low-molecular-weight heparin preparations (Lovenox(Enoxaparin))
-In the presence of prolonged baseline activated partial thromboplastin time (APTT) (eg, lupus anticoagulant, "contact factor" deficiency, etc)

Collection Instructions

Blood must arrive immediately after draw.- 4 Hours
 
Container/Tube:  Light blue-top (3.2% sodium citrate) tube
Specimen:  Full tube within four hours or 1mL platelet poor plasma
Transport Temperature:  Refrigerate
Collection Instructions:  If there is a delay in transport, spin down, spin plasma again, and send citrate platelet-poor plasma. 
Double-centrifuged specimens are critical for accurate results as platelet contamination may cause spurious results. Send Frozen platelet poor plasma)
Note:  Patient must be on low molecular weight heparin, not danaparoid.
