Collection Instructions

Specimen must arrive immediately after draw within 4  Hours
 
Container/Tube:  Light blue-top (3.2% sodium citrate) tube 
Specimen:  Full tube or 1mL Platelet poor plasma  
Transport Temperature:  Refrigerated-entire tube Frozen Platelet poor plasma
Collection Instructions:  1. If no other tube is drawn, draw a discard tube.
2. Fill tube completely.
3. Mix by gently inverting several times.
4. Centrifuge twice ( double-centrifuged specimens are critical for accurate results as platelet contamination may cause spurious results.)
Note:  Patient must be on unfractionated heparin.
